    Update 3-30-2020 to the

FREE MEALS AVAILABLE WHILE SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED

The Federal government waived the requirement for children to be in the vehicle when picking up meals.  A parent/guardian is now allowed to pick up the meals for all children ages 18 and under in their family.  This waiver remains in effect until June 30, 2020 or until expiration of the federally declared public health emergency, whichever is earlier.

    Dear Parents and Community,

The Governor recently extended the school closing through April 6, 2020 with teachers coming back on April 7, 2020. Since April 10, 2020 is Good Friday, Northern Bedford will plan for students to return to school on Monday, April 13, 2020.

The district has been busy finalizing plans based upon information coming from Pennsylvania Department of Education and our politicians. Teachers will utilize Monday and Tuesday (March 30 and 31, 2020) to prepare for student enrichment and review activities. On Wednesday, April 1, all teachers will officially begin providing educational lessons to students and parents on a weekly basis. Teachers will be available from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM to answer student and parent questions via district email. There will be a OneCall from your child’s principal reminding students to begin checking their school email, Canvas, or elementary website prior to Wednesday.

The activities will be provided to students digitally. If you don’t have internet access at home to utilize these digital resources, the district will provide paper resources upon request. Please contact your child’s respective school office (814-766-2221) to make this request.

We will officially conclude the third marking period as of the last day students were in school (March 12). Report cards will be distributed April 13, 2020 for the third marking period.

On a different note, NBC personnel served a total of 363 lunches and 363 breakfasts on Thursday. This operation is available on Mondays and Thursdays from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM and provides breakfast and lunch for three days for all students free of charge. This will continue during the school closure.

    Thank you,
    Todd Beatty

FREE MEALS AVAILABLE WHILE SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED

    Dear Parents and Guardians:

Schools closed due the coronavirus are able to provide free meals to all students through the National School Lunch Program’s Seamless Summer Option.  These meals are available to any child age 18 or younger.

While schools are not in session, the Northern Bedford County School District invites families and caregivers to pick up meals for the children beginning on Thursday, March 26, 2020.  A breakfast and lunch will be provided for 3 days on a first come, first serve basis.  We will serve three days’ worth of meals each Monday and Thursday.

Children must be present in order for meals to be provided.  Please stay in your car, and meals will be passed through based on the number of children in the car. When entering the district please turn right into the north parking lot and loop around to the left pulling up parallel to the curb stopping at the corner where the cafeteria doors are located.  If vehicles are in front of you, please pull behind forming a line.  Once you receive your food, proceed toward the exit as you normally would.

Pick up is available Monday and Thursday, 11:00am – 12:00pm at:

    NBC Middle/High School (Cafeteria entrance)

    152 NBC Drive

    Loysburg, PA 16659

Lunch will include a sandwich, fresh vegetable, fruit, and milk.  Cereal, muffin/bread, are some of the items that will be provided for breakfast.  Breakfast will also include fruit, juice and milk.  Cold items should be stored in the refrigerator.  Please discard leftovers after 3 days.

We encourage families to continue to be proactive in reducing the risk of coronavirus by not congregating at the pick-up site once meals have been distributed, continue to wash your hands often, use a tissue when sneezing or coughing, and stay at home if you are sick.

Please contact the Northern Bedford County SD Food Service Office at 814-766-4714 or jmiller@nbcsd.org with any questions about the meal service or to make any necessary medical meal accommodations.

    ATTENTION

One of the most effective practices to minimize the spread of Covid-19 (Coronavirus) is social distancing.  Social distancing is the conscious effort to reduce close contact between people.  We ask all residents of our district to take the threat of Covid-19 seriously and implement the concept of social distancing.  At this time, we ask all residents to refrain from using the common areas on our campus such as Panther Paradise, basketball courts, and athletic facilities.  Your cooperation will greatly reduce the impact Covid-19 has on our community and surrounding areas.

    OAC Meeting Canceled

The OAC/LAC meeting has been canceled.  We will reschedule the meeting at a later date to be determined.
